National Shield of Honduras
Dionisio de Herrera, as the Chief of State of Honduras, created the National
Shield by decree on October 3, 1825. In addition, decree number 16 of January
10, 1935, assigned the National Shield to be a National Symbol.
The National Symbol that must be used is an equilateral triangle.
At it's base there is a volcano in between two castles, and on top one finds
a
rainbow, but underneath it and behind the volcano one finds the sun coming
out emanating
light. The triangle is on top of the land and the water represents both
seas.
With respect to the oval, which contains the gold letters: "República
de Honduras, libre, soberana e independiente, 15 de septiembre de 1821" .
On the top of the oval there is a quiver full of arrows and lots of horns
are hanging united by a rope which lays on a mountain where one finds three
oak trees on the right and three pines on the left. Also, on the left hand
side one can see the mine distribution, a metal bar, a sledgehammer and a
hammer.
