National Flower of Honduras
Until 1946, the National Flower of Honduras use to be the rose. However,
since the rose's roots were not that of Honduran origin, it was then decided
that the Orquid Brassavola Digviana--of Honduran roots--would substitute
the rose, and this was established by decree of November 26, 1969.
The Royal British Academy of Orquids, responsible for the registration of
such flowers and with headquarters in London, established in 1998 two new
species of Orquid Brassavola and they are: i) the Rhyncholaelya Digviana
and ii) Rhyncholaelya Glauca. From that moment on our National Flower has
been the Orquid Rhyncholaelya Digviana.
